MEDITATION: PALM SUNDAY

As we enter into Holy

As we enter into Holy Week, let us reflect on the scriptures below. Ask yourself, “Do I really know who Jesus is? Would people recognize him in me? Do I sit in judgement of others instead of showing compassion? Do I serve Jesus by serving others? Do I really follow the gospel lessons taught by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount?”

The Beatitudes are found in Matthew 5:3-12 and paralleled in Luke 6:20–23:

Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

13 They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, “Hosanna! ” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”“Blessed is the king of Israel!”

John 12:13

12 The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon 13 planted in the house of the LORD, they will flourish in the courts of our God 14 They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green 15 proclaiming, “The LORD is upright; he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.”

Psalms 92:12-15

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. ~ Zechariah 9:9
