Court St. Faustina #2478

Founder and First Regent

Barbara Jean Brummitt Founder of CDA Court St. Faustina #2478

Barbara was born on April 11, 1924 in Pulaski, WI to Vincent and Josephine Shippy. Her desire to serve others led her to the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN where she earned her BA in Medical Technology in 1950. In 1953 she married George Brummitt, settled in Dallas and joined the newly formed St. Monica Parish. For 18 years Barbara was able to combine her medical knowledge and her strong Catholic faith to serve the St Paul’s Catholic Hospital Community. Barbara’s life was one of servitude. She went on to serve the St. Monica Community for more than 50 years from school fundraisers when her children attended St. Monica to bake sales, tamale sales, Eucharist Ministry, St. Vincent De Paul, and the Holy Name Society (just to name a few). To follow the example of Jesus, Barbara founded the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court St Faustina #2478 in 2000, as a way to join Catholic women and together serve the community. Several years later she founded the JCDA, to mentor young Catholics and encourage their faith and charitable activity. Nicknamed the Brumskies, Barbara (BRUMmitt) and her best friend Christine (BukowSKI), were regular fixtures at Daily Mass, adoration and CDA functions. Barbara made time for anyone who needed her help and was special to everyone who knew her.
Barbara and George were blessed with 8 children, 19 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. When Barbara was not busy helping others, she found joy spending time with her children and grandchildren at her beach house in Rockport, TX. She loved the outdoors and was an expert at crabbing, shrimping and gardening. Barbara loved to play games (Bridge, Chicken Foot, and Dominoes), swim, and go for walks. She was an amazing cook whose famous Banana Bread always sold out fast at the bake sales. Barbara was always up for an adventure. Just say “Hey Barb…” and she had her purse ready to do whatever you asked. She was organized and a hard worker, running the annual tamale sale and teaming up to help the Knight’s of Columbus. Once Barbara passed the torch on to future CDA Regents, she enjoyed spending her days with Tate and Viktoria, her youngest twin grandchildren, making rosaries and attending CDA functions with Christine. On July 3, 2020 Barbara was welcomed into the arms of our Heavenly Father but her service to the community does not end there. It lives on through those who follow her example and carry on her legacy of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court St. Faustina #2478 and the Junior Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

CARRY YOUR ROSARY EVERYDAY
When you carry a Rosary, Satan has a headache.
When you use it, he collapses.
When he sees you praying it, he faints.
Let us pray the rosary every time, so that he’ll keep fainting.
Did you also know that when you are about to forward this message, Satan will try to discourage you?
Forward it anyway and help hasten the triumph of Mother Mary!
Send this to your prayerful friends and see how the Holy Spirit works!
There is a great deal to gain and absolutely nothing to lose!
